Advice to My Younger Self || blognigigi

As always me wasting time on social media is also a good place to get inspiration for my blog. One of the bloggers I am following has this video up saying her advice to her younger self.

And I thought to myself I will do the same thing on my blog too.

I did a blog back then about Things I Learned @ 29, and this is kind of similar but I will try to make it a little bit different if I could.

A little bit of disclaimer, overall throughout my life I don’t like to think that I wish that I have done this or that, let me say regrets.

I like to think that everything that I have done before that I may not like or I wish I have done differently so that I will have a totally different result right now are the things I consider now a learning curve of myself.

For me, that is not so much important right now, to think about the past, the stupid decisions you make or “I could have done better”self-talk.

What is more important for me is right now. This precious moment I have and the possibility of a lot of things I can do right now to achieve my renewed dreams, aspirations and goals in life.

I will do this blog so that I can make inspiration for a lot of young people out there so they can learn from people like me, what are the good habits to start as a teenager or a new graduate from college or brilliant things to do to be financially free on your first job.

Let me start with my Advice To My Younger Self

1.       Save

Now that I am pursuing my “Financial Freedom”, I just wish that I had the patience back then of delayed gratification and hid all my money in a bank and out of my mom’s knowledge until the time comes that I actually know where to invest and have multiple streams of income.

I do admit that 5 years ago I don’t have the slightest idea how to be financially free other than marry a rich man or go abroad to have higher salary (I know that is pathetic and I blame afternoon TV shows for giving me that impression) but even if you don’t have a clue about everything as of the moment, save and once you actually know what you want tp do, you can easily jumpstart your plan. Unlike what I did today wherein I have to get a job and save to actually start my plans (sounds like a regret but its all good I love to start all over again and I am happy doing this now).

2.     Join Religious Community That Will Build You Up

When I was a teenager I would describe myself as a mess. I have issues with my parents, I have issues with making friends at school, and as vulnerable as I am back then I tend to believe in a lot of stupid things, like I will not be successful, I was born to fail, my parents are to blame that is why I am not successful and so on.

I tell you, there is no remedy with this worse mentality that I have back then.

There is no positive advice from anyone can reverse this stupidity I have in my mind. Not until I seek the Lord and ultimately understand that all these things are not the real issue of the world (I join on a lot of Bible studies and join a community like Singles for Christ and The Lords Flock).

That is the time I came to realize my real purpose. And the stupid things that mean the world to me back then is not really a problem but an issue of being selfish.

I wanted to be successful, I wanted to be popular, I want to excel at work and I want everyone to praise me for doing what I do.

Yes, I am selfish and knowing the Lord turns my point of view the other way around and came to know my ultimate goal in life.

For me, my ultimate goal is not giving away money to help the poor(well I want to do that someday if I have the capacity too), but to radiate the blessing of the Lord in all situation.

You’re stuck in traffic?

I am not complaining the grace of the Lord is enough for me to be calm and not worry.

But maybe if you will be late this time you will get the third memo and this will be enough for you to be kicked out of the work.

But still I will not worry; the grace of the Lord is enough for me to have the courage and the ability to qualify for another job.

Like, come to think of it, in every situation we manage to resurface back to success.

Why?

Is it because of my own ability? Or luck?

I don’t think so?

I think that all these things are the everyday shower of the grace of the Lord to every one of us.

I remember having to apply to 3 interviews and one actually have me be on training, all ended up one a reject, the other two is turned down by me.

At that time, it is common to feel frustrated and sad. But I put all my emotions aside and applied once more and then “viola” I get a job that is not night shift and a two day off and the compensation is a little bit bigger than my previous one.

Use your ability that the Lord gave you and for sure you will be more than enough to pursue your own dreams. The Lord has equipped us already with all the things we need and all we got to do is use it!

And one thing to give back to all these blessings is to radiate the goodness to everyone you meet.

Like giving positive comments (I know I am guilty of always being negative).

Giving positive advice, now I see myself to people who complain and I was like, I am the same person like you like 5-7 years ago. And I know exactly what you need. Positivity! And ultimately the positivity that never runs out and that is from the love and grace of the Lord.

3.     Anger Hold You Down

Remember I talk about how negative I am starting from high school that is when it is so hard to gain friends and issues about my parents. Yes, these factors hold me down and I thought to myself that I am born to be a failure. Joining in a religious community helps me realize that I created a stupid lie inside my head and I inflict the own damage to my life.

So, I learned to forgive and realise that everyone has their own journey to make. All people can be bad and good at some point in their life and it doesn’t mean that your world has to stop. They can still change, I don’t know how long it would take but for sure it will be for the better. They too have their own life to figure out for themselves.

So forgive, I think it is easier to forgive my family because at the first place they are my family and I love them. We may disagree on some things but that is normal. Everyone is different. We have our own individuality but at the end of the day, we are still family(I kind of remember the lines from Keeping Up with The Kardashians LOL).

So forgive and stop showering yourself with anger because they did this to you and did that to you. Move on and live life because you are more than blessed. J
4.     Friends Will Follow but First Find Yourself
Being me negative back then tend to find friends so hard. I easily lose them in a snap.

That totally makes sense now actually, who would have wanted to be around a person who is always negative. So I suggest find yourself, have your ultimate purpose, be busy with your hobbies and enjoy the time being with yourself.

Now I feel that I can easily be in good terms with everybody maybe because when I don’t like something, I try my best to politely say no and if they blurt out negativity to me I can easily give positive advice to them. Maybe because at some point I experience the similar situations so I understand where are they coming from.

5.     When You Make Mistake People Will See the Worst of You, but When You are Successful on Your Project (work or school) People Will Praise You

I just find that people will have the worst comment about you when you screw things up.

Well obviously, you screw up what do you expect? Commend you on doing such a great job?

What I am trying to say is, when you screw up stop trying to get the sympathy of another person.

Or even if you don’t ask for how worse you did and they give it to you, do not think that his/her comment will be true to your entire life.

Yes, you screw up today but that doesn’t mean you will be stupid for the rest of your life. You can change and can make a good decision in the future.

At some point, I experience a higher up of mine wherein I receive a blatant comment about my work. And at that time I feel that my whole personality is being attacked as well. But being stubborn as I am, I did not believe a single word my higher up says and I can peacefully say to myself that I have lived my best life up to this day and I am happy I did not listen to you.

Yes, I screw up but I cannot accept the fact that you will say negative things about my work ethic and so on. That is not me, my work screw up but I can still make excellent decisions in the future.

6.     Start Doing What You Love

Be busy technically, I love a lot of things at the same time. I love cooking, gardening, writing and I do a little bit of everything at the same time.

Before, I started writing only to a notebook or a good bunch of paper I bought from a bookstore (because I love collecting those), just recently I started to actually make a blog because I admire a lot of bloggers out there and I wanted to be one.

And I am a blogger now, a dream come true!

Be busy, try everything and ultimately invest in what you will not be tired of doing for a long period of time.

This is where you will invest in yourself. Invest in your skills, invest in the things you love doing. Some people actually make money doing the things they love and that is my dream as well.

7.     Love Will Either Make or Break You but Sometimes You Just Got to Live and Move on

Heartbreak is a big deal, especially for us girls. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t look like what other people perceive it to be.

I am not an expert with heartbreak but I would say that what I did is be drowned to the feeling of being heartbroken and then when you start feeling better start focusing on doing the things that you love.

That is actually the time I have the push to start blogging, because I need to do something useful about myself, so I just did it. And now more than a year later I still love writing anything and everything under the sun.

I am documenting my journey to financial freedom too. I actually declared myself (blognigigi) to be an advocate for financial freedom, especially to the minimum wage earner. Because I am a minimum wage earner back then and I know the feeling of wanting to go out of the situation of wanting to be financially free

So I document everything and hopefully, you will get two cents out of it. J

8.     It Can’t be All About You

Life is not like a kids birthday party. It is not how popular you are or it's not about the jokes you throw to gain a crowd, life is about, well in my opinion life is about pursuing your dreams without stepping on other people (laugh at them, say bad things about them). Living a life reflected of what you believe in. I am a Christian and it is really important for me to radiate Christian Values to everyone I meet. And that might mean as simple as to not complain all the time, give positive notes to people who feel down or to feel grateful to everything I have right now even if it looks so simple compared to others.

For me, I feel a lot of peace when I stop on thinking what does people at the office think about my comment the other day or I wish I didn’t say that comment because I might hurt his or her feelings.

So instead of throwing a good joke at the expense of one, think 100 times and just throw on a positive comment. It is easier to live that way and most of all you will radiate Christian Values which for me is really important.

That is it for now.

If I am not mistaken this is the longest post I ever made. Wow! I am sure chatty.

Thanks for reading all the way.
